Children's Carnival
2012 ANNUAL CHILDREN'S CARNIVAL
Wednesday, July 11th, 2012
5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
1836 Fairmount Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45214
The carnival is a meaningful event to us because it allows BHS to provide a safe, fun environment for the program participants, emergency shelter guests, and neighborhood friends and most importantly for the children who do not have the opportunity to enjoy the festivals, water and amusement parks that make childhood so memorable. After the first of the year BHS will be looking for booth leadership, small prizes, volunteers, and food items. Your sponsorship will help BHS to provide year-long programming for our children. We focus on the special emotional, physical, developmental and relational needs of homeless children in crisis. Our program has been proven to decrease the number of incidences of child neglect and abuse in this vulnerable population.
Homeless children are at great risk of feeling isolated, abandoned and depressed due to their uprooted situation. Sociology research and 26 years of experience with these kids has shown us that this sense of isolation and lack of nurturing can result in withdrawal, depression and a lack of motivation to connect with siblings, schoolmates, neighbors etc. This situation often finds the mothers stressed and impatient. The children can become victims of neglect/abuse very easily. When there is no positive bonding between the child and the parent, negative and even violent behaviors prevail. Homeless children are perfect prey for gang members because they offer the kids a sense of “home” and experience of belonging. These children need to be safe and protected from the chaos and confusion of poverty as well as the neglect and abuse that often accompanies homeless families.
