Emergency Shelter
Bethany House Services provides case management for more than 400 women and children annually.
The shelter provides a safe, accessible offsite location. A supervised, therapeutic environment, nutritious meals, transportation assistance and enrichment programs coupled with professional case management, access to physical and mental health resources, a housing specialist and life skills programming add up to successful outcomes for 85% of our families. Housing, counseling and jobs program referrals take place.
Success means that guests leaving the shelter have secured housing and income. Last year our emergency shelter served 33,440 healthy meals and snacks.
Child/Parent Program:
Focuses on the special emotional, physical, and relational needs of homeless children in crisis. The program is designed to prevent neglect and abuse of the children through the implementation of the Parenting Plus curriculum with mothers, weekly support groups and children's enrichment program. 602 individuals benefited from this multi-faceted program carried out in collaboration with Project Connect (all age appropriate children attended at least 92% of the time). Staff, volunteers, BHS Carnival Committee, the Summertime Kids Fund of Greater Cincinnati Foundation, AAA and other family foundations made this possible.
Life Skills Literacy Program:
Includes classes that focus on budgeting, housekeeping, health, and wellness, stress management, job training and retention as well as a variety of enrichment topics, which educate and enrich the program participants.
Post Shelter Support:
includes follow-up house, phone and Social Service Center visits with formerly homeless women and children who have successfully completed the Shelter Program. The program is designed and implemented to help the families maintain stable housing, income and general well being. 405 persons benefited in 2010 with nearly 2,400 instances of contact, information and referrals.
